Sephora Haul

It was my birthday last month, so of course I had to stop by Sephora for my birthday gift!  I received a few Sephora gift cards from friends to spend on a few beauty products which made the trip all the more fun! I really didn’t go in looking for anything, but boy… did I walk out with a whole bunch!  I have already tried out everything that I purchased and sadly, a few of them had to go back to Sephora.  *insert sad face*  Keep on reading to find out what I loved!

Sephora Haul Sephora Haul

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation (120=Y245 Soft Sand): I’m still not too sure about this.  I can’t tell if this is also sinking into my pores and magnifying them or if it’s the primer that I am using. Other than me trying to figure that out – I do like how light this foundation is.  It does cover up the redness on my face and gives me an even skin tone without feeling like I’m wearing a foundation.  I typically wear BB Creams since I like a more natural look, but wanted to try out this foundation since it is so talked about.   It’s supposed to give you that “second skin” look and feel and it definitely does it’s job in that aspect.  I would recommend this product if you are looking for a natural looking foundation.  Sephora | $43.00

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Pressed Powder:  I thought this was weird.  Why put another powder, a white one at that, on your face after you have already put on a face powder?  Well, my friends.  I actually think that I have been missing out on this HD powder trend.  I do have an oily t-zone and this is suppose to help reduce shine and mattify skin.  I have been wearing this for the past week and I have noticed that my skin is not as oily.  Also, it helps to blur imperfections white I have noticed.  Now the million dollar questions – Do I have a ghostly look on my face after applying?  Not really.  I tried to swatch it for you on my hand but as you can see, it’s only really in my wrinkles.  Plus, I had to try really hard to get the powder to show on my hand.  I think this is definitely something that everyone should try!  Sephora | $36.00

Make Up Forever Ultra HD Pressed Powder

Make Up For Ever 124 Powder Kabuki Brush: I bought this to go with the HD Pressed Powder, but once I got home – I realized that I have a MAC kabuki brush I don’t use.  Why waste money (or a giftcard) if I already have something that’s just as good?  So even though this was the softest most plush brush I have ever looked it, it had to go back.  Sephora | $52.00

Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer Primer – Matte Finish: I had really high hopes for this primer.  It was recommended to be by an associate at Sephora when I was testing the foundation.  As soon as I put it on and then started putting on the foundation, I noticed that my pores were MAGNIFIED.  It was kind of disgusting and intriguing at the same time.  However, if you do not have perfect, pore-less skin… then do not use this.  I tried it 1 more time before realizing that this needed to go back ASAP.  Sephora | $37.00

Bite Agave Lip Mask – Champagne:  I found out about this on a fellow blogger’s site and wanted to try it out. It’s a rose gold pearl color, but when you put it on, it’s pretty neutral with some shimmer in it.  This lip mask is very moisturizing and I bet it’s great for the winter when your lips can get really chapped from the cold and wind.  Sephora | $26.00IMG_4454IMG_4462

Fresh Skincare Birthday Gift Set – Rose Face Mask & Soy Face Cleanser:  I have been using both of these products for YEARS.  I love both and use the Soy Face Cleanser on a daily basis.  It’s gentle and perfect for sensitive skin.  The Rose Face Mask is moisturizing and great to use in the winter when it’s dry.  I got to choose between this set and a Marc Jacobs set that included a lipstick and eyeliner.  Since I am more into skincare, I got the Fresh set.  One of the perks of being a Sephora Beauty Insider – sign up is free is you are not already a member.  Sephora | FREE if you are a Sephora Beauty Insider

Hope you enjoyed this haul!  Have a great weekend!

Best Moisturizers

I decided to start doing some “best/top 5” posts and since I’m on a skincare kick right now – why not start with the best moisturizers for your skin type?  I have tried every single product that I am recommending at different times of my skin’s life.  It’s definitely true what they say, one day you’re going to have “normal skin,” then it’s going to be “combination skin,” then it’ll be “dry skin.”  You have to know what skin type you have and make sure you get the correct skincare products that will help with the problems you have.  Sometimes I will notice my skin is dry at work and all I have is hand lotion.  I don’t recommend doing this on a daily basis by any means, but if it’s an emergency – it should be okay for the time being… I know a handful of people who use body lotion on the face.  DON’T EVER DO THAT…. Ok, onto the post!

Normal Skin: Kate Somerville Nourish Daily Moisturizer|$65.00 – The company says that this is a light, sophisticated formula that delivers brightness and nourishment.  Great for all skin types (even sensitive skin).  Plus, it helps with anti-aging too!  If you have “normal skin” then you are a lucky lucky person.  Back in the day, when I thought I had “normal skin” and before I turned 30, I tried this moisturizer out.  It was when Kate Somerville first came out with her skincare line.  I remember it vividly – I was working at the big fancy and the sales associate that was in charge of the line walked over to my department with some free samples.  I, of course, purchased an entire skincare regime because I love trying out new lines.  I love how it has lavender, ginger and orange in it.  It’s lightweight and has a great scent!

Acne-Prone Skin: Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer Oil-Free|$8.40 – One day my coworker came to my house (again, back in the day) and she looked at my shelf that has all my skincare products on it and she couldn’t believe that I used this product.  Well, the truth is… I went to a dermatologist when my skin was not very happy with me and she recommended this.  I have to say, this definitely  helped in my 20’s when I was breaking out like crazy.  Some pro’s about this stuff – it’s cheap, you can buy it ANYWHERE, and it works!  Why don’t I use this now?  Well, obviously as you get older – your skin has different needs.  Now I need anti-aging, anti-wrinkle, basically anti-anything right?  But, if you are having some problems with acne and need something – use this stuff.

Moisturizer with SPF: Clarins Brightening Hydrating Day Lotion SPF 20 Oil-Free Nordstrom|$65.00 – I actually stopped using this about a year ago because I wanted to try something different.  But I have to say that I did like this.  I bought maybe 3 bottles of this but unfortunately the price kind of kept me away from staying with it forever and trying out other things.  Lightweight moisturizer in a nice pump bottle.  Definitely worth a try if you are looking for a daytime lotion with SPF.

Dry Skin: Bobbi Brown Hydrating Face Cream Nordstrom|$58.00 – There was a time when my skin was super duper dry and I needed something to get it back to it’s dewy glory.  I like the glass packaging that it comes in and it definitely helped my dry skin.  I didn’t repurchase it because I didn’t need it anymore.  Right now if my skin gets a bit dry in the winter – I go through my bag of samples that I have collected from Nordstrom & Sephora and I usually have some “extra moisturizing” face lotions in there.  If I have my favorite La Mer samples, you better believe I use those first!  Side note – you can get La Mer samples when you order beauty/skincare products from Nordstrom.

SPF: Shiseido Urban Environment Oil-Free UV Protector Broad Spectrum SPF 42 Nordstrom|$32.00 – I know I did a review on my favorite Clarins SPF, but I wanted to offer another option.  Also, I know this isn’t a “moisturizer” per se, but if are you too lazy – you can totally just put this on and it kind of moisturizes your skin.  I do this sometimes if I am going hiking.  I sweat so much that I don’t want to sweat off my moisturizer AND my sunscreen all at once.  So that’s my lazy tip to anyone out there…. but back to the review – All of my sisters use this SPF so it has to be good.  Plus, I always see it on the “top SPF” list when I’m googling stuff. I just never liked it – personal preference only.  I know that Shiseido is good for Asian skin but since I’m all about packaging and smell it never appealed to me.  It’s a great product and definitely a good SPF, especially since it is at 42 SPF.  Give it a try!

Combination Skin: Fresh Black Tea Age-Delay Cream Nordstrom|$90.00– This is what I currently use and I love it.  I totally contradicted myself in the review above about the SPF saying I didn’t want to put the one that I love BUT I really love this one.  It’s pricey but worth it.  I love the consistency and the packaging.  The smell no longer bothers me and my skin just feels so luxurious after I apply it.  If you have combo skin like me, get a sample and try it out!

Oily Skin: Kiehl’s Rosa Arctica Lightweight Cream Nordstrom|$60.00 – I generally use this in the summer when my oily skin is out of control.  I like that it smells like lavendar and it’s lightweight.  Plus, the light aqua color of the packaging is just so pretty.  I can hear everyone right now saying in their head “Susie!  Packaging doesn’t mean the product works!”  I know…but I love a good packaging!  Kiehl’s does make this in the original formula that isn’t lightweight.  I find it to be a bit too heavy for the summer, but good in the winter.  I actually have the original formula and am planning on trying it out soon to see how it goes with my skin – will update you in a few months when that happens!

I hope this was useful to you.  If there are any other “best/top 5” posts that you would like to see, let me know!  It could be “best leather jackets” or “best nude sandals for the season.”  Don’t have to be beauty only, it can be fashion as well. Leave me a comment below and I will make that happen for you!

Until next time!

Fresh Black Tea Age Delay Cream

Price: $90.00 | Nordstrom

I have always been a fan of Fresh’s clean look and high quality packaging.  It took some time for me to get used to the scent of some of their products (Soy Cleanser I’m looking at you!), but you do get used to it after awhile.  I somewhat even enjoy the smell of rotten cucumbers now.  Anyhow, I had my eye on their Black Tea Age Delay Face Cream.  Ever since I turned 30 years old, I have been trying out different products to stop any aging that may be occurring on my face.  If I can stop wrinkles before they begin showing up…all the better right?

I tried this out for over a month and I have to say that I really like it. I love the consistency of the face cream.  It’s right in the middle – not too light and not too thick.  When you use your fingers to pick up some cream, you’re able to pick up the right amount.  I know it helps to save money, but sometimes I hate it when the cream is super thick and you only need a tiny dab to cover your whole face.  I just don’t feel like face cream should be like that.  But, this cream definitely gives my skin a nice glow after application which I like.

Final Thoughts:  I really enjoyed this cream.  My face didn’t feel dry and I didn’t notice any new wrinkles (thank goodness!).  I would say that if you’re looking for a mid-priced face cream (and by “mid” I mean between drug store and La Mer/La Prairie/SKII), then this is a good choice.  I didn’t find anything I didn’t like about this … so I’ll give this a 5/5.

Until next time!
